Be strong

Excerpts from speeches delivered by Siddha Yogi Shri Siva Shankar Baba

Sri Chandrasekhara Saraswati, the Paramachariar used a good 88 of his 100 years undertaking staunch penance, protecting and spreading the divine message of the Vedas. In the history of the world, saints who have reached his spiritual heights are not even one in a billion.

He introduced several welfare schemes for the community like 'PadiArisi' scheme (every household sets apart just a handful of rice every day and this will be collected by a central agency once a week, cooked in some temples, offered to the deity and distributed to the poor and needy), protecting cattle etc. During his last days, Paramachariar lamented, "I introduced several schemes for the uplift of the society. All of these schemes have come to naught right in front of my eyes. But businesses like bars, night clubs, horse race betting and gambling with cards have become very prolific."

Today, the well -- meaning citizens of the society are cowardly and not strong. When someone is subjected to eve-teasing, you turn your head the other way instead of challenging the goons, lest you face the risk of getting beaten up by them. Only when you imbibe the courage to fight for dharma, will the society progress. If you want to have peace, you have to contribute to it. If a person is injured and lying on the road, the human tendency is to give him a passing glance without stopping a single second. You hurry away from the scene, afraid that you may be dragged into court as a witness for questioning by the police. What if he who was injured was your own son or someone you knew? Will you be afraid of police then? How would you feel if you were the person injured and passers by just passed you by?

There are many evils having their sway on society right in front of your eyes. And though you are aware of these atrocities, you have conditioned yourself to become a part of this false society. You do not have the guts to question the perpetrators, you act blind, deaf and dumb even if you can see, hear and speak. You will have to mend your ways. We should encourage good and destroy evil even if we have to sacrifice our lives in that process.
