An incident in the life of Swami Vivekananda |
|
Once when Swami Vivekananda met Rockfeller, Vivekananda said, "God has made you a very rich man. How much can you dress with the use of your wealth? There are so many children of God in this world. Why can't you do something for them?" Rockfeller said, "You Indians are beggars" and went away.
After a week, he put Rockfeller trust papers on the table and said, "You should thank me, you have to be thankful to me. I have followed your advice and created a trust so that God's children will be looked after from now on" and looked at Vivekananda.
Vivekananda looked at Rockfeller and started to laugh. Rockfeller asked, "why are you laughing?" Vivekananda said, "You should thank me because it is I who taught you to serve God. I taught you how to live and how to get a good name from God."
So also, this world, it does not have people moving towards charity. God has granted them the opportunity to be charitable and they should always be thankful to God for having
been given that opportunity.
